Burial # 3168Corporal, one of 26 military personnel
killed when U.S. Army Air Corps C-47B
Skytrain #45-1085 disintegrated in flight and
crashed near Hobart Mills, north of Truckee,
California.

There were no survivors.

A splintered propeller blade (possibly due
to a lightning strike) caused the motor to
vibrate loose, which triggered a gasoline
explosion, resulting in the wing separating.
The transport aircraft plummeted into the
Sierra Nevada mountains, near Hobart Mills,
about eleven miles north of Truckee, killing
all twenty-six aboard.
